The Norfolk County town of Brookline came in at No. 11 on Niche’s 2024 “Best Places to Live in America” ranking. It also took the No. 1 spot on the site’s “Best Places to Live in Massachusetts” list.
Niche looked at a variety of factors to come up with its ranking, including cost of living, public schools, crime and safety, housing costs, and diversity.
With an overall grade of A+, Brookline was praised for being “warm and cozy with plenty to do,” according to one Niche reviewer. “Close to downtown Boston with lower housing costs. I strongly recommend Brookline for any young professional like myself!”
The town, with a population of 62,689, holds an A+ in the categories of public schools, nightlife, “good for families,” health and fitness, outdoor activities, and commute.
Crime & safety and jobs garnered B grades, while weather was given a B-.
It wasn’t all good news for Brookline, however. Reviewers feel there’s room for improvement in the housing and cost of living categories, which hold a C+ and C-, respectively.
According to Niche data, the median household income in Brookline is $130,600, while the median home value sits at just under $1.2 million.
